Simon Manfield is an artist and bookseller based in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. His arts practice is concerned with the process of drawing and uses themes of memory and narrative, presence and absence, and looks at humanity and its place in the landscape. The drawing projects, Memoria Histórica and Orcadians: Seven Impromtus have seen success through exhibitions held both nationally and abroad. The work made for Orcadians: Seven Impromptus was published as a limited edition hardbound book in 2016. These two projects are thematic antecedents to a new collection of work entitled Monuments and memory. Monuments and memory is an ethnographic and psychogeographic archive using the North Atlantic archipelago of St Kilda at its heart.
Simon has worked in the independent bookshop The Book Case in Hebden Bridge since 2002.
