Stephen Shulman was trained at the Royal Academy of music. He played full time as a first violin for the Netherlands Ballet and Opera North. He has composed an Opera The Water Palace which was performed at Tete a Tete opera festival in London. He has also written several chamber works featuring singers including some Sylvia Plath settlings, partly inspired by living in Heptonstall . He runs a gypsy jazz band called Manouche North and a klezmer group known as Freylach Band.
