Sarah Westcott

Ms

Sarah Westcott’s first pamphlet, Inklings, (Flipped Eye) was a Poetry Book Society pamphlet choice and Slant Light (Pavilion Poetry, 2016), was highly commended in the Forward Prize. Her second collection, Bloom, also with Pavilion Poetry, was published last year. Sarah was a journalist for twenty years and now works as a freelance writer, editor and tutor. Work has appeared on beermats, billboards and buses, baked into sourdough bread and installed in a nature reserve, triggered by footsteps. Sarah lives in Kent and is currently working on a collection of fragments inspired by a small, newly-dug garden pond.

I will be reading from Slant Light and Bloom, Pavilion Poetry, 2016, 2021. More details here – www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/books

Sarah Westcott’s first collection, Slant Light, was described by Jacob Polley as fierce with intelligence, compassion and the sheer exuberance of attending to what Hopkins called ‘the dearest freshness deep down things’”.

On Bloom, Liz Berry says:These beautiful poems pivot upon a strange dazzling curiosity. They urge us to kneel in the long grass and pay tender attention to the spaces within nature and within ourselves where life blooms.

Maggie Wang, writing in the Harvard Review this year said: “With humility, reflectiveness, and careful attunement to her surroundings, Westcott calls for her readers to stop and contemplate the wonders of the natural world.”
